Mediums are people able to communicate with spirits, but are they always really in communication with spirits during their sessions ? For sure they have the capacity to perceive suprasensitive energies and to collect information present in the etheric plane and / or the astral plane, but what does that mean? These words need clarifying.
The different constituents of human nature:
Spiritual science describes the human being as being made up of many bodies. The best known is the physical body, made of matter, matter which decomposes on death and becomes dust again. The physical body then returns to the mineral world, it is said to belong to the mineral kingdom.

Spiritual science describes the human being with an etheric body, or vital body, or even energetic body, to make matter come to life and keep it alive. The etheric body provides the physical body with a structure a shape and vitality. Beings of the plant world also have an etheric body that provides life and secure growth. Just as there is a physical world to which our physical body belongs, there is an etheric world for our etheric body.
The astral body is home for the center of feelings and emotions. The beings of the animal world also have an astral body, which allows animals to have emotions. Our astral body comes from a third world which is the astral world.
The human being also has a spirit, a thought, or a self, which distinguishes him from animals. This Self is part of the spiritual world. It is the immortal part of the human being.
What happens after clinical death?
When a human being dies, he leaves his physical body which becomes a material corpse. But this corpse is not the person. Near-death experiences (NDEs) show that the person’s mind continues to evolve after clinical death. Spiritual science specifies that the spirit stays in the etheric plane, for a few days then in the astral plane, before reaching the spiritual plane per se.
According to spiritual science, the same phenomenon takes place in the etheric plane and then in the astral plane: after a stay of three or four days in the etheric plane, the astral body and the spirit of the individual leave this plane abandoning a part of the etheric body which remains as an image or as etheric remains. This etheric image (lifeless) or this etheric residue (dead) can potentially be captrured by a medium.
A serious cause of possible error for mediums:
A medium who has a good contact with the etheric world will be able to come into contact with the “etheric corpse”, or the etheric residue. And since the etheric body holds memory, the medium can in all logic, draw from the memory of the deceased. He/she may thus get personal or intimate information from the deceased, although he/she does not get in contact with the spirit of the deceased. What the medium can get is only a portion of the memory contained in the etheric corpse. The medium can come into contact with thoughts that the deceased had – thoughts that were in him in the past – but they are only lifeless thoughts. The spirit of the deceased does not manifest itself.
For a medium able to perceive the etheric world, a real contact with the deceased is only possible during three days following death because at this stage, the spirit is still present in the etheric body. This was the case for the airmen killed in the Battle of Britain, example reported in the previous blog post (Spiritism II). This could also be the case for wandering souls, whose astral bodies and spirits are still detained in the etheric world as long as these souls remain stranded along the way.
The process is the same and with the same risk of error, for mediums who can capture energies from the astral plane, since here too, the spirit of the individual will leave behind an astral residue when it passes into the spiritual world per se. This astral residue can also be perceived by a medium, but it would be unrealistic and wrong to believe that in this case, the medium contacts the spirit of the deceased because the spirit is in the spiritual plane and not in the astral plane. It is also possible that this spirit has already been reincarnated (for those who believe in reincarnation).
This ignorance of human nature is an major source of error and illusion during spiritism sessions. It is important to understand that depending on the stage reached by a deceased along the way beyond physical death , it is not always the spirits of the deceased who manifest themselves in these sessions. It can just be residues abandoned in the etheric plane (holders of memory), or in the astral plane. This is quite common.
But in all of these cases, we are dealing with Interdimensional Manifestations (IDIM).
